April 21, 2020Veteran character actor Allen Garfield has died at the age of 80 following coronavirus complications.
The actor, who was best known for appearances in Beverly Hills Cop II and Nashville, passed away at a care home in Los Angeles on 7 April.
The death was confirmed by Garfield’s sister Lois Goorwitz to Associated Press, who said that the actor’s death was due to complications from Covid-19.
Garfield was a resident at the Motion Picture Television Fund Home, a residential retirement facility for people who used to work in the film and TV industry.
On Tuesday, Deadline reported that two residents at the nursing facility had died following complications related to the virus, with four members of staff testing positive.
Comedian Patton Oswalt also offered his condolences, writing: “RIP Allen Garfield. Yes he was great in NASHVILLE and CONVERSATION and dozens of other movies but special mention’s gotta be made of his work in THE CANDIDATE. Manages to be funny, cuddly and Satanic all at once. A master.”
